ABOUT MIAPT

MIAPT is a non-profit professional organization established to promote the principles and practice of play therapy and to enhance the professional development of its members. The Michigan Association for Play Therapy, Inc. (MIAPT) is the Michigan State Branch of the Association for Play Therapy (APT) with the organizations having dual membership. Members of the organization can be professional individual or affiliate individual members. A professional member is any licensed mental health professional. A professional member may attend MIAPT meetings, hold office and vote. An affiliate member is any full-time student, parent, or other non-professional mental or physical health provider. Affiliate members may attend MIAPT meetings but may not hold office or vote.

Our Goals

MIAPT has several broad goals as a professional organization. These goals are to:

  • Educate mental health providers, insurance suppliers, physicians, attorneys, judges and the public about play therapy and that play therapy is often the most viable treatment option for children and adolescents.
  • Engage mental health practitioners in extensive play therapy training and supervision.
  • Provide our child clients and their families with the best evidence-based and practice-based evidence for assessment and treatment interventions to promote healing and health.
