Bringing Nature into Play Therapy Supervision: Revitalize Your Self, Play, and Practice!

presented by Julie Nash, PhD, Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor

Integrating nature-based play into play therapy can have powerful neuropsychological and clinical benefits. Bringing nature into play therapy supervision encourages supervisees to explore the process while experiencing the physical and mental benefits of nature time for themselves. Getting out into nature and bringing it into play and supervision spaces can revitalize one’s sense of self and encourage playfulness, while expanding play therapy options. Participants will discuss the clinical and psychosocial reasons behind integrating nature into play therapy and supervision and learn some neuropsychological benefits. Cultural influences and ethical implications will also be discussed. Participants should come prepared to explore nature in their surrounding environments to create and utilize miniatures and supervision interventions using natural materials.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify at least 4 benefits to integrating nature based play into play therapy supervision sessions.
  2. Identify at least 4 play therapy supervision interventions encouraging creation of miniatures and use of nature based materials.
  3. Discuss at least 2 potential limitations to using nature based materials in play therapy supervision.
  4. Identify how cultural influences can impact access to nature, and how this can be addressed within play therapy and play therapy supervision.

Session limited to 40 participants. | 3 APT Contact CE | Advanced Level | Play Therapy Skills and Methods, Play Therapy Special Topics

Please note that CEs are only for APT hours.
